Electric air purification equipment, including electrostatic precipitator (ESP), negative ion, low-temperature plasma, ultraviolet irradiation, etc., is a commonly used class of air purification equipment. This paper analyses the history, working principle, function, application scenarios, and disadvantages of these electric air purification equipment. It is pointed out that the ESP is only a medium-efficiency air filter and is suitable for industrial applications. Negative ions are beneficial to human health, but artificially generated negative ions may harm human health, and the limited effect range and the “black wall phenomenon” will affect the use of negative ion purifiers. Low-temperature plasma air purifiers are recognized both domestically and internationally as being effective in purifying particulate matter, especially for VOC and bacteria, but the formation of high concentration of ozone as a secondary pollution hinders their promotion. Ultraviolet irradiation is a traditional disinfection technology. Only by selecting the correct type and using it properly can its function truly be realized. The current electric air purification technologies have their own strengths and weaknesses, with their advantages being prominent and their disadvantages obvious. Only by highlighting their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses can different technologies be combined to truly achieve the goal of high-efficiency air purification.
